Top Ten Tuesday!

Happy Top Ten Tuesday everyone! It’s a free week over at The Broke and the Bookish.  So instead of doing the usual list i’m going to talk to you about the Louisiana Teen Readers’ Choice Award.  Every year a list of nominees is announced and teens all over Louisiana pick at least two books to read.  Then in January they get to vote on the winner.  This not only recolonizes outstanding authors but gets teens more active in reading.  With 2016 voting almost over I thought I would list the 2017 Louisiana Teen Readers’ Choice Award nominees because while only Louisiana high school students can vote all of the books chosen are so good and worth reading.

What are you reading?

book geek

Hey everyone!  Just wanted to check in on this gloomy kinda Monday (it’s been gross looking outside all day today here) to ask what are you reading?  Personally i’m reading two books right now:  Popular a memoir: Vintage wisdom from a modern geek by Maya Van Wagenen and A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray (ok technically i’m listening to this not reading it).  Both will be featured in upcoming Book Spotlights!  But what about you?  What are you reading or listening to?  Let me know in the comments below and check back tomorrow for Top Ten Tuesday!

Top Ten Tuesday!

Happy Tuesday!  Today over at The Broke and the Bookish they are doing a awesome top ten list all about the 2015 Releases They Meant To Get To But Didn’t.  Unfortunately I’m way behind on my reading so if I made that list it would have to be way more than 10.  So i’ve decided to go rouge today with my list.  Click below to read my Top Five Book Series I Need To Finally Finish! Book Spotlight!

Today’s Book Spotlight! is on a book of poems call Poisoned Apples: Poems for You, My Pretty by Christine Heppermann

poisoned_apples_heppermann This collection of 50 poems blend fantasy with reality.  Christine takes equally from fairy tails and everyday life to fill the book with haunting poems about unseen side of beauty and perfection.  The Ugly Stepsister talks about how it feels to be the one left behind, the formerly Ugly Duckling wonders if being beautiful is really an improvement, and Little Miss Muffet’s diet plan is scary but all to real in today’s world. This book is short but not sweet, disturbing but fascinating.  This is a great read regardless of if you are a poetry fan or not.  Highly recommend for high school age teens.  To request this or anything else in our collection click here.

NOvember Book Challenge: Week 4 Reveal

book money

The last week is already here!  Welcome to Week 4 Book Reveal!  NOvember has seemed to fly by.  I really spent some time thinking about genres of books that I haven’t given a fair try.  The more I thought the more I kept coming back to Manga.  I have read some but I’ve never really found a genre of Manga that I liked.  (Did you know Manga had genres?  Thank you Anime Club for teaching me!).   So for my week 4 selection I picked a very popular Manga series that I have said no to over and over again.  So for Week 4 I will be reading…

NOvember book challenge: Week 3 review

Week 3 book:  Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Reason I said No Before:  Someone else didn’t like it

Did this book change my mind?:  YESish.  First I must confess I didn’t completely finish it (yet).  According to Overdrive I am 75% done with it so I do feel like I can make a fair assessment of it.  So yes this did change my mind, I am enjoying it, and will certainly finish it.  However i’m going to admit i’m not really sure if I will keep reading the series.  It is a good book, and if you like fantasy I would recommend reading it, but i’m not in love with the book.  It isn’t one that I need the sequel to right now.  More likely I will read it eventually just don’t think the book is quiet as awesome as all the hype I’ve heard about it.  Also the names in this book are super annoying (kim you were right!).  But like I said I am enjoying it and i’m glad I took a chance and read it.  Check in next week for the 4th and final week of the NOvember Book Challenge!
