Top Ten Tuesday!

Hey everyone!  Happy Tuesday!  Hope today has been good for you.  The Broke and the Bookish picked an excellent theme for today’s list, so I present to you my list of Top Five Characters Who Are Fellow Book Nerds!  Enjoy!

1.  Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling

It seems only right to start a list about book nerds with someone who is probably one of the biggest book nerds in all of YA literature.  Hermione reads books like Hogwarts: A History for fun and can often be found in the library before, inbetween, and after classes.  As much as Harry and Ron like to tease Hermione about how much she reads they also depend on her book smarts when things get tough.  You go Hermione!

2.  Cather “Cath” Avery from Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Cath is a reader, a writer, and in love with all things Simon Snow related.  She wants nothing more than for the world of Mages to never end (how many of us felt the exact same way about Harry Potter!), so uses her talents to write Simon Snow Fanfiction.  I particularly love how offended she is when Levi says he just isn’t a reader!

3.  Hazel Lancaster from The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

I have two words for you:  Imperial Affliction.  Enough Said.

4.  Liesel Meminger from The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Liesel learns to read and love words from her foster father, which is dangerous in Nazi Germany during World War II.  Unable to stop herself she puts herself into even more danger by stealing books that the Nazis have made illegal to own.  Do yourself a favor and read this book if you haven’t already.  Learn, like Liesel, about the power of words.

5.  Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld

I want to read this book so bad!  It alternates between telling the story of Darcy Patel, navigating the world of publishing, and Lizzy, the main character in Darcy’s book.  This sounds like the perfect book for any Book Nerd and I have a feeling the main character will be just as big a nerd as we are!

Agree?  Disagree?  Who did I forget?  Let me know in the comments!

  1. I’m so glad you included Liesel!

If I’d known you would have wanted to read Afterworlds, I would have sent you my ARC of it back before it came out. I considered doing it anyway, but since it was a bit different than his other books, I wasn’t sure you’d like it.
