Today’s Book Spotlight is on I Hunt Killers by: Barry Lyga.
Jasper Dent is the son of one of the most infamous serial killers in the United States. While his father has been locked away in prison for years now, Jazz’s life has never really recovered. He’s got a few friends, but everyone else in town treats him like he’s going to snap at any minute and follow his father’s footsteps. Even Jazz isn’t so sure that he’s entirely safe to be around.
Then the murders start. Someone calling himself The Impressionist starts killing people in ways eerily familiar to Jazz. In fact, they are almost exact copies of the murders his father committed years ago. The police are in a frenzy trying to discover the identity of the killer, but Jazz is surprisingly calm.
You see, he knows something they don’t. He has first-hand experience with the psyche of serial killers and he knows how they think. He’s convinced that he can use what he learned from his father for good. Jazz wants to beat The Impressionist at his own game and catch him before any one else dies. And if Jazz does this, he hopes that it means he’s a better person than the one his father trained him to be.
I Hunt Killers is an action-packed thriller mystery. There are some scenes of gristly violence and graphic situations, but the more horrifying stuff is left “off-camera”. If you enjoy crime shows and slasher films, you’ll definitely want to check this book out. It’s also one of the 2015 Louisiana Teen Reader’s Choice Awards nominee books.
