Today’s Book Spotlight is on This Song Will Save Your Life by: Leila Sales.
Elise Dembowski has it pretty rough. She’s never been a popular girl–infact, she’s been distinctly unpopular since fourth grade. She wanted to change all that in high school, so she tried to completely reinvent herself. The results were disastrous.
Now she’s sixteen years old, trying to get away from her past. But things are hard. She’s still weirder than ever and the bullying at school has only gotten worse. Things seem hopeless and Elise is convinced she’ll never be anything more than this disgusting, weird, pitiful teenager. At least, that’s what she thinks until she finds Start.
Start is an underground nightclub and it’s the first place where people there are nice to Elise. In fact, it’s the first place she feels like she could be somebody other than what everyone else at school sees. It is at Start where she learns about DJing and how she can turn her love of music into something that drives crowds wild.
This Song Will Save Your Life is a novel about learning to love who you are as a person. It has some pretty graphic scenes of and references to self-harm and bullying, so you might want to steer clear of this book if you are not in a place to read about it. However, it is ultimately an uplifting story about finding your place in life, even if it isn’t “popular.” To reserve a copy of this book, please fill out a book request form.
